Before the days of TV, computers, hi-fis and video games,
children usually played outside. Street games were very cammon then, and of course, very cheap. Most of the time, all you needed was a clear space, a piece of chalk and a bottle cap!
A very popular game was marbles. Marbles are small glass
balls, usually in a variety of colours. Children spent hours
playing marbles in the streets and were
very proud of their marble collection.
Another popular game, especially for girls, was
hopscotch. This is a hopping game. You play
on a 'board' which you draw on the street with
chalk. Stickball wasalso a favourite with children - all ypu
need is a broom handle, a rubber ball and a lot of energy! And
don't forget skully, one of the most popular games you use
bottle caps, or any other small object.
Want to try something new ? GHet your chalk, grab a bottle
cap and head for the streets !
