Not many Britonsstay home at New Year's Eve. Many of them decide to spend it abrouad, mostly in France and Italy. If they decide to stay, there are many possibilities for them. Most British youngsters spend New Years Eve in clubs. Usually places like clubs and pubs close early, around 1 o'clock, but not on that special night. Some people also go to Trafalgar Square in London. It's one of the biggest New Year's Eve parties in the world. Live concerts of best music performers and best DJs from around the globe play there. Whatever they decide to do though, there is one thing you have to do when being in London: at midnight everybody watches at Big Ben adn waits for new year to come.

The Scottish New Year is known as Hogmanay or Day of the Candle. Both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day were also known as Daft Days. The Scots prepare for the New Year by cleaning their houses. This is something that, in their beliefs, is supposed to purify your life. The food they eat at New Year was Haggis, scones and cheese as well as traditional New Year black buns.
