Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana. He was the seventh of nine children, while the fifth of six children in working-class family of Joseph and Katherine Jackson. Katherine, a Jehovah's Witness, raised children in their faith without the father. At age 17, Michael Jackson was baptized Jehovah's Witness. According to the interviews after all these years by the same Michael, the father, who was later manager of the band, he could be ruthless in discipline impose children and not refraining from physical violence against them. Jackson's father, Joe, admitted in 2003 that they regularly beat Michael.
