Tutankhamen was born in about 1367 BC. He became pharaoh at the age of nine, but he died eight years later. When he died, the ancient Egyptians mummified his body and put it in tomb with a lot of treasure.
In 1922, Howard Carter, a British archeologist, went to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. He was looking for mummies. One day, Carter and his men were exploring when they found a tomb. Inside the tomb, Carter and his friend, lord Carnarvon, found the mummy of Tutankhamen and his treasure. the two men took the mummy and the treasure from the tomb. After that, there were many stories about a mysterious curse. For example, an insect bit lord Carnarvon on his face and he died. Then archeologists found the same mark on Tutankhamen's face. In England, lord Carnarvon's dog died at the same time as lord Carnarvon. Some other archeologists died when they were young. Was this the curse of king Tutankhamen?
Scientists have got another explanation for the mystery. While they were studying some other mummies, they found dangerous bacteria. Today, scientists and archeologists always wear gloves and masks when they look at mummies, but Lord Carnarvon and the other explorers weren't wearing special clothes. Did the bacteria kill them? Was there a curse on Tutenkhamen's tom? what do you think?
